Sir Harry Gibbs Constitutional Law Moot

Melbourne University Law Students’ Society (MULSS), in collaboration with the Australian Association of Constitutional Law (AACL) and the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS), will be hosting the 2024 Sir Harry Gibbs Constitutional Law Moot (the Gibbs Moot).


Competition Details


The Gibbs Moot will take place from Friday, 4 October 2024 to Monday, 7 October 2024. This high calibre moot brings together Australia’s best constitutional law mooters to compete in Melbourne.

The competition is structured as a four round-robin moot, followed by three knockout finals rounds. There will be a $1,500 prize for the winning team and a $500 prize for the second-placed team.

Registration Opens – Monday, 24 June 2024

Registration Closes – Friday, 26 July 2024

Problem Released – Monday, 5 August 2024

Written Submissions Due – Friday, 13 September 2024

In-person rounds and functions – Friday, 4 October 2024 to Monday, 7 October 2024

2023 Results

Congratulations to the University of Melbourne team (Felix Geake-Ransome, Jack Fagan, and Eleanor Twomey) on winning the Grand Final of the 2023 Sir Harry Gibbs Constitutional Law Moot!

The runners-up were the University of Western Australia team (Yi-Yun Loei, Tiffany Chisholm Gardner, and Melanie Fraser).

A special congratulations must also go to Jack Fagan for being awarded Best Speaker for the Grand Final and Tiffany Chisholm Gardner for being awarded Best Speaker in the Preliminary Rounds.

Thank you to the Hon. Justice Mark Moshinsky, the Hon. Pamela Tate AM KC, and the Hon. Susan Kenny AM for adjudicating this year’s Grand Final, and to the Australian Government Solicitor for once again sponsoring the Gibbs Moot.
