State Party Negotiation

Registration will open on Wednesday 27/8/21 at 5pm AEST.

Following its successful introduction in 2018, the Competitions Portfolio will be running its newest competition again in 2021: the Baker McKenzie State Party Negotiation competition. This Competition was introduced to complement the other competitions run within the portfolio. In particular, it aims to add an international perspective to negotiation, and to further explore some international law issues that are not covered in the International Humanitarian Law Moot. This Competition is a fantastic opportunity for students to grapple with an area of international law that they may not have necessarily studied at MLS. That being said, no prior knowledge is expected or required to participate!

Teams compete in pairs in one preliminary round, against four other pairs. The highest-scoring teams will progress to the Grand Final.

At this stage, it is unclear where the event will be held. The preliminary rounds will be hosted by Melbourne Law School, and the Grand Final will be hosted by Baker McKenzie. If we are in person, the final may be held at the Baker McKenzie Melbourne Office.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact Kathy Tran and Matthew Healy at
