President’s Welcome
It is with great excitement that I look towards 2010 at the Melbourne Law School. The Law Students’ Society is eager to engage with the student body in a supportive, relevant and creative manner. As the demographics of the law school change, the LSS seeks to adapt its initiatives to this change and to appeal to students entering the Law School through the Juris Doctor (JD) program, from a myriad of different backgrounds. The LSS wants to ensure a smooth integration of new JD students in 2010, as well as continue to provide support for the current student body, consisting of both LLB and JD students.
This website is regularly updated to provide you with valuable information on what is happening around the law school and beyond. You will find here details about LSS initiatives, competitions, publications, tutorial notes and events happening in the wider community. Please also do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information, if you have any suggestions for the LSS, or if you would like a relevant initiative to be publicised. The LSS seeks to be as accessible to the student body as possible. So please also feel free to come to the LSS office at any time. It is situated on level 2 – turn right out of the elevator and to the right of room 222. As well as soft copies of publications and forms which will be uploaded to this website, hard copies will also be available from the office.
The LSS has regular meetings and a strong relationship with members of the Law School faculty. If there is something that you would like to be brought to the attention of the faculty staff, but you are not sure how to do so, we are here to help facilitate a dialogue. We are also closely affiliated with the Australian Law Students’ Association, so we are able to keep you up to date on what is relevant to law students nation-wide.
As one of the largest law student societies in Australia, we are well equipped to provide students with events and services to make your time at law school as enjoyable and enriching as possible. The LSS has plans for a number of exciting new events in 2010 to broaden your experience of studying law. The LSS will provide you with helpful information on the law school curriculum, a wide range of legal and non-legal careers, and social justice and community initiatives. We’ll also keep you entertained, and give you the opportunity to use what you learn in class in a practical setting, through a variety of competitions.
I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities and support that the LSS will offer in 2010. On behalf of the LSS Committee, we really look forward to your engagement in our initiatives throughout the year. Once again, I would love to hear your feedback, so we can make the LSS as relevant and beneficial for all law students as possible.
