The MULSS Environment Portfolio invites you to a lunchtime seminar, led by Professor Jeremy Gans. The event will be held at 1pm on Thursday 10 October 2019 in Room 221, Melbourne Law School. The seminar will focus on the proposed Criminal Code Amendment (Agricultural Protection) Bill 2019 that was put forward by the Commonwealth Government in July 2019 and referred to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee. If passed, the Bill would introduce new offences relating to using a ‘carriage service’ to incite trespass, property damage, or theft on agricultural land. The Bill is significant from an animal law perspective. As the Bill is a response to entry into agricultural properties by animal activists and could expose activists to criminal liability, some Australian animal lawyers have characterised it as…
